Opening Night

The 2023 season of Rock The Boat Film Festival kicks off with its Opening Night at Ace Cinemas Rockingham, with a Ceremony held in the Gold Lounge Function Room. Catered food will be provided, and drinks will be available to purchase at bar. There will be an Event Photographer to capture you in front of our Media Wall and the Mayor of the City of Rockingham will say a few words before the festival is declared open for 2023.

6:00pm – 6:45pm (Opening Ceremony)

6:45pm – 8:30pm

At 6:45pm all guests make their way to the General Admission/Seating area for our official cinema audience photograph for this year. The screening starts at 7:00pm. At the end of the screening, filmmakers will be invited down to the front of the cinema to be acknowledged by the audience.

There are two ticket types for this night, the first ticket includes the Ceremony plus the screening. The second ticket type for this evening forego the ceremony and go straight to the cinema, ready to be included in the official photograph to kick-start our 2023 season!

For the Ceremony + Screening, tickets are $30

For the Screening only, tickets are $20

People under 15 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Viewer discretion is advised.

This is a primarily family-friendly session, however, people under 15 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. There are some mild scary themes that may frighten small children.

Arrive in plenty of time to purchase your snacks from the Candy Bar

  • 11.00am: The session commences, featuring short films and documentaries primarily filmed in or set in Rockingham. Please allow enough time beforehand to arrive and purchase any food or drinks from the kiosk, as there is no extended segment of advertisements and trailers.
  • 12:25pm: During or after the credits roll, attending filmmakers, cast and crew will be invited to the front of the cinema to be acknowledged by the audience.
  • 12.30pm: The session concludes.

10 Hutchins Way, Kwinana Town Centre

  • Prior to 6:30pm: Guests arrive for registration. After arrival, drinks and snacks will be available to purchase from the bar, and there will be an Event Photographer to photograph you in front of our Media Wall. All Guests will have access to download these professional photographs in the days following the event, and are welcome to keep these photographs for personal use or share on social media.
  • 6:45pm: A speech to celebrate the first ever screening of Rock The Boat Film Festival in Kwinana. After this, guests will make their way to the main theatre area.
  • 6:55pm: Our Event Photographer will take a group photograph of the audience.
  • 7:00pm: The screening begins, primarily featuring short films and documentaries filmed in or set in Kwinana, but also featuring some other short films. 
  • 8:25pm: During or after the credits roll, attending filmmakers, case and crew will be invited to the front of the cinema to be acknowledged by the audience. 
  • 8:30pm: The session concludes.

  • Prior to 6:50pm: Guests will arrive. There will be time to purchase food and drinks from the kiosk/bar.
  • 6:50pm: Doors open to the cinema. Following this, our Event Photographer will take group pictures in front of our Media Wall. All guests will have access to download these professional photographs in the days following the event, and will be welcome to share them on social media and keep them for personal use. There will be a brief speech to celebrate the first ever screening of the festival at Fremantle.
  • 7.25pm: Our Event Photographer will take a group photograph of the audience.
  • 7:30pm: The screening commences, featuring short films and documentaries that were filmed in or set in Fremantle.
  • 8.55pm: During or after the credits roll, attending filmmakers, cast and crew will be invited to the front of the cinema to be acknowledged by the audience.
  • 9:00pm: The session concludes.

Gala Awards Night Closing Night

Venue: Gary Holland Community Centre, 19 Kent Street Rockingham

The second year of Rock The Boat Film Festival will conclude with a black-tie, red-carpet awards presentation and closing ceremony, uniting filmmakers, finalists, friends and family from across all three regions of the festival.

Doors will open at 6:30pm sharp. Upon arrival, our official event photographer will capture you walking in on the red carpet, and you will receive a complimentary drink (sparkling wine or juice). In the foyer, there will be our Media Wall, and in the main hall, there will be a photo booth with plenty of props and furniture for further photo opportunities. Throughout the evening, as guests will be seated in theatre-style rows for speeches, screenings and presentations, they will be served substantial cocktail food by Impressions Catering. The cash bar for various beverages will be open for most of the night.

After the main category finalists and People’s Choice awards recipients are acknowledged and awarded, and following a brief Closing Ceremony, the night will conclude by 11:00pm.

All guests will have access to downloads of any professional photographs taken of you on the night, which you are welcome to keep or share. Please notify us if you do not wish for yourself or your child to be  featured in photographs or recordings.

You must inform us of any special dietary requirements (GF/DF/VEG) at least 14 days prior to the evening, preferably upon booking the tickets. No arrangements will be able to be made on the night.
